We provide independent Mr-Glass service and installation across San Jose, from frameless shower enclosures in Willow Glen Eichlers to replacement glass in Cambrian ranch homes. The thing that sets our Mr-Glass work apart here is that we actually understand the houses: the radiant slabs, the post-and-beam frames, the original 1960s tub enclosures that are still hanging on. We’re Bradford Remodeling Co San Jose, owned by Curtis Lane, and we serve the whole valley. Call (669) 272-2637 for a free estimate on Mr-Glass work.

Why San Jose Residents Choose Us for Mr-Glass Service

We’ve spent years fixing and retrofitting Mr-Glass windows and enclosures in mid-century homes, so we know the brand’s frame profiles, glass specs, and failure points firsthand. We don’t claim to be factory-authorized, and we won’t pretend to be. What we are is local. Curtis Lane grew up in LA and picked up his first framing hammer at a job site in Inglewood before he was old enough to drive. He trained through the construction technology program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where he learned to read structural drawings and run a job by the numbers, not by feel. Now his crew works across San Jose, including Kitchen Remodeling - San Jose and bath gut-outs in Willow Glen, where the older ranch homes demand solid prep work before a single tile goes down. That’s the lens we bring to every Mr-Glass job in San Jose.

Common Mr-Glass Construction Problems We Solve in San Jose

  • Corroded aluminum header and sill channels on older Mr-Glass sliding shower doors. San Jose’s hard water is the culprit here. Mineral buildup eats into the aluminum over decades, and the door starts binding or leaking. We see this constantly in Willow Glen and Cambrian homes where the original Mr-Glass tub sliders from the 1970s are still in use.
  • Failed roller assemblies causing doors to jump track. This is the classic failure on original 1960s-80s Mr-Glass tub enclosures in ranch homes. The nylon rollers wear flat, the stainless ball bearings seize, and the door suddenly derails into the tub. We source OEM-look rollers that match the original profile where possible.
  • Stress cracks radiating from corner notches in 3/8-inch Mr-Glass panels. Years of minor seismic movement, plus the natural settling of expansive clay soils in parts of San Jose, puts pressure on the notched corners of frameless panels. A hairline crack near a hinge or clip is a warning sign. We never reuse cracked glass; we replace it with tempered panels that meet current safety codes.
  • Discolored or leaking silicone at glass-to-tile joints in Mr-Glass frameless enclosures. Where unpermitted additions shifted or the original tile work wasn’t square, the silicone bead separates and water wicks behind the tile. In San Jose’s older homes this can mean damage to the substrate behind the wall, not just a cosmetic re-caulk.
  • Original Mr-Glass enclosures over radiant-heat slabs in Eichler homes. This is the job many out-of-town contractors won’t touch because saw-cutting around the slab for a shower pan risks hitting the heating pipes embedded in the concrete. We do this work routinely in Willow Glen, where the density of original 1960s Eichlers is among the highest in the country.

Mr-Glass Service in San Jose: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

A built-in window seat in a bay window

Willow Glen has one of the densest concentrations of original 1960s Eichler homes in the country, and we routinely replace the original Mr-Glass shower enclosures over radiant-heat slabs. This is the information a generic Mr-Glass page cannot give you. Eichler homes were built with post-and-beam construction and radiant heating pipes embedded directly in the concrete slab. When you convert a tub to a walk-in Mr-Glass shower in one of these homes, the shower pan has to be set without cutting into those pipes, which run under the bathroom floor in a pattern that isn’t always where the plans say. A contractor who doesn’t know Eichlers will saw in blind and hit a hot-water line. We’ve done too many of these to make that mistake. The dry summers and occasional winter rains in San Jose also play a role: exterior Mr-Glass work, like storefront replacement, gets scheduled around the brief wet spells, while interior shower work proceeds year-round in the mild Mediterranean climate.

A Willow Glen Eichler on Newport Avenue still had its original Mr-Glass framed tub slider from 1964. The bottom track was corroded from hard water and the rollers had worn into the aluminum, so the door sat off-kilter. Our tech cut away the old enclosure, reframed the opening for a custom Mr-Glass semi-frameless slider with stainless rollers, and reset the tile curb to keep water out of the radiant slab. That’s what local knowledge looks like on the job.

Mr-Glass Models & Products We Service in San Jose

We work on the full range of Mr-Glass products you’re likely to find in San Jose homes and commercial spaces. Mr-Glass Frameless Shower Enclosures, built with custom 3/8-inch and 1/2-inch tempered glass, are the most common in higher-end remodels. Mr-Glass Semi-Frameless Sliding Shower Doors show up in 1980s and 1990s ranch homes across Cambrian and Almaden. Mr-Glass Fixed Panel and Glass Partition Systems are common in Eichler bathrooms and in some home office conversions. Mr-Glass Commercial Storefront and Window Glass appears in retail spaces along Lincoln Avenue and elsewhere in San Jose.

For Mr-Glass enclosures, we source OEM-look rollers, seals, and hinges that match the original profile where possible, but we’re upfront when a full panel replacement is safer than chasing a corroded track. We only use tempered glass that meets current safety codes. We never reuse old panes, even when the homeowner asks us to save money that way. It costs less to do it once with the right glass than to do it twice with the wrong one. See also our Mr-Glass sales & service overview for the broader range of what we cover.

Mr-Glass Service Pricing in San Jose

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

Here’s what Mr-Glass work costs in San Jose, based on current local market rates:

Service San Jose Price Range
Frameless Glass Shower Enclosures $5,900 – $14,160
Tub-to-Shower Conversion $4,130 – $11,800
Walk-In Shower Installation $5,310 – $14,160
Small Bathroom Remodel $5,900 – $14,160

What drives the cost on Mr-Glass work in San Jose is the condition of the existing opening. A straight tub-to-shower swap with no structural work lands at the lower end. A full enclosure replacement over a radiant slab, where we’re protecting heating pipes and rebuilding the curb, lands higher. Every estimate includes a written price before work starts. No numbers move at the door. Call (669) 272-2637 for a free, line-item quote.

FAQs – Mr-Glass Construction in San Jose

Can you replace just the rollers on my 1970s Mr-Glass sliding shower door, or do I need the whole door?
If the track is still square and the corrosion is limited to the roller assemblies, we can often replace just the rollers with OEM-look parts that match the original profile. If the aluminum channel itself is pitted or warped, a roller swap won’t hold and you’re better off replacing the door. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll tell you which one you have after looking at it.

My Mr-Glass frameless enclosure leaks at the bottom corner where it meets the tub. Is the glass settling?
Usually what’s happened is the silicone has separated from the tile or the tub deck, often because the original setting wasn’t perfectly square or the house has shifted slightly. The glass itself rarely settles. We remove the old silicone, check the panel for stress cracks at the corners, and re-seal properly. If there’s water damage behind the tile, that’s a separate repair. Call (669) 272-2637 for an inspection.

Do you need to saw-cut the slab to convert my Eichler tub to a Mr-Glass walk-in shower?
In most Eichler homes in San Jose, no. The original radiant heating pipes are embedded in the slab, and cutting blindly risks hitting them. We route the drain and set the shower pan without saw-cutting through the slab whenever the layout allows. When cutting is unavoidable, we map the pipe locations first. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll walk through what your specific layout needs.

Can you source Mr-Glass brand-specific hinges for a fixed panel that’s starting to sag?
Yes. We source OEM-look hinges, seals, and rollers that match the original Mr-Glass profile where possible. If the hinge is no longer available, we’ll tell you and recommend a compatible replacement that carries the same load rating. We don’t substitute parts that don’t match the weight of your glass. Call (669) 272-2637 with your model details and we’ll check availability.

Will a Mr-Glass enclosure replacement trigger a Title 24 or city permit in San Jose?
A straight glass enclosure swap typically doesn’t require a permit, but if the work involves moving plumbing, changing the shower pan, or altering the drain location, the city of San Jose will want a permit. Title 24 energy codes mostly come into play with window glass replacement, not shower enclosures. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll tell you what your specific job needs.
