Moen Kitchen Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
We install and service Moen fixtures as part of full kitchen remodels across San Jose, with complete kitchen remodels running $16,520 to $53,100 depending on scope, cabinet grade, and countertop material. If you have a Moen faucet, sink, or soap dispenser that’s failing mid-remodel, or you’re planning around existing Moen rough-ins, we stock common Moen replacement cartridges, aerators, and mounting hardware on our trucks and can typically address fixture issues same-day during a remodel. Most San Jose homeowners call us after a faucet starts dripping at the base, a pull-down spray head loses pressure, or a sink flange corrodes and starts leaking into the cabinet below.
Here’s the straight picture: Moen makes good fixtures, but nothing lasts forever, especially with San Jose’s hard water. The mineral content in our municipal supply eats through cartridges faster than the national average. A remodel is the right time to address every Moen part that’s been limping along. You’re already into the demo, the countertops are being replaced, and the last thing you want is a fixture failing six months after the job closes.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Most of the Moen fixtures we work around in San Jose kitchens fall into three lines: the Moen Arbor, Moen Align, and Moen Adler series for faucets, along with the Moen Garbage Disposal series and Moen stainless steel sink lines. The gotcha many homeowners hit is cartridge compatibility. Moen uses the 1225 cartridge for older single-handle faucets and the 1255 Duralast cartridge for newer MotionSense and Reflex models. They are not interchangeable. We see this mistake weekly: someone buys a 1225 online, forces it into a 1255 faucet, and the handle binds or leaks worse than before.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Moen’s own cartridges carry a limited lifetime warranty, and when we install Moen OEM parts, that warranty stays intact. Aftermarket cartridges from Danco or Lasco run $8 to $20 cheaper, which sounds fine until the plastic stem cracks inside six months. On a $25,000 remodel, saving $15 on a cartridge is a bad trade. We spec Moen OEM parts on Moen fixtures, period. For sinks, the key spec is the drain opening: Moen stainless sinks use a standard 3.5-inch drain, but the undermount clips are Moen-specific. If you lose the original clips during demo, generic replacements rarely seat the sink properly. We keep Moen clip kits on hand because this comes up more than it should.

Signs Your Moen Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Dripping from the spout after the handle is off. This is almost always a worn cartridge. In San Jose, hard water accelerates mineral scoring on the cartridge seals, and the drip starts slow, then becomes a constant trickle. You’ll notice it more in the winter when water pressure runs higher.
- Low flow from the pull-down spray head. Debris and mineral scale collect in the spray face. If you switch between stream and spray and both are weak, the diverter inside the head is packed with sediment. Sometimes you can soak the head, but if the diverter seal is torn, the head needs replacement.
- Leaking at the base of the faucet. This means the O-rings around the cartridge housing have gone flat. Water runs down the faucet body and pools under the handle, then drips onto the counter. Left alone, it wicks under the deck plate and rots the cabinet substrate below.
- The pull-down hose won’t retract. The weight under the sink has slipped or the hose has kinked inside the cabinet. We see this constantly in San Jose homes with deep undermount sinks where the hose routing was tight from day one. A kinked hose eventually develops a pin-hole leak.
- Brown staining or soft cabinet floor under the sink. This is the symptom that tells us the leak has been running for months. By the time a San Jose homeowner sees staining on the sink base cabinet floor, the damage is into the plywood. We’ve pulled cabinet floors in Willow Glen ranch homes that looked fine from above and were rotted through underneath.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

If you’re replacing Moen fixtures as part of a larger kitchen remodel in San Jose, the fixture costs fold into the full project range of $16,520 to $53,100. If you’re swapping a failing Moen faucet, sink, or spray head without a full remodel, here’s what the line items look like:
- Moen faucet replacement (labor only): $150 to $350, assuming existing shut-off valves work and the supply lines are in reusable shape.
- Moen OEM cartridge replacement: $120 to $220 installed, including the part. We stock 1225 and 1255 cartridges on the truck.
- Moen stainless undermount sink replacement: $400 to $900 installed, including new mounting clips, silicone, and drain assembly. Countertop removal is not included if the sink is set under existing stone.
- Full kitchen remodel with Moen fixtures throughout: $16,520 to $53,100, which includes cabinetry, countertops, plumbing rough-in, Moen fixtures, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise on the entire job.
The price range depends on cabinet grade, countertop material, and how much plumbing reconfiguration the job requires. Every estimate is written before work starts. The total on the estimate is the total on the invoice. No numbers move at the door. If the work doesn’t hold within the first year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s the Garrison Standard in writing, not a verbal promise.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things an owner can safely do. Cleaning a Moen spray head with vinegar to clear mineral scale is straightforward. Checking the pull-down weight under the sink is safe. Tightening a loose aerator is fine. Replacing a Moen cartridge is where DIY goes sideways in San Jose homes. If the old cartridge is seized from hard water scale, an owner can crack the brass housing forcing it out, and now you’re buying a new faucet instead of a $40 cartridge. If the shut-off valves under the sink are old gate valves, they often won’t close fully, and you’re doing plumbing work with water still in the line.
We’d rather install it right the first time than come out and fix a DIY attempt. If you want to try the simple stuff, go ahead. If you’re looking at a dripping Moen faucet and the valves haven’t been touched since the house was built, call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician to do the job in one visit.
FAQs

With San Jose’s hard water, a Moen faucet typically lasts 10 to 15 years with routine cartridge replacements every 4 to 7 years. The faucet body will outlast the internals. If you’re replacing cartridges more often than that, you may have a water pressure issue worth checking. Call (669) 272-2637 if you want us to diagnose it during a remodel estimate.
A leaking Moen faucet can almost always be repaired with a new OEM cartridge and O-rings, not full replacement. The exceptions are a cracked faucet body or a damaged hose, where the cost of the part can push you toward a new fixture. We’ll tell you which way to go once we see it.
A Moen cartridge swap takes under an hour. A full faucet replacement takes one to two hours. A sink replacement takes two to four hours depending on whether the countertop is in place or being replaced. If we’re already on site for your San Jose kitchen remodel, fixture work usually happens same-day.
We stock Moen 1225 and 1255 cartridges, spray heads, aerators, and mounting hardware on our trucks, plus Moen sink clip kits for undermount installations. For rare Moen finishes or specialty models, we order OEM direct and typically have the part within a few days. Our documented brand roster also includes KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the surrounding remodel scope.
