KraftMaid Home Additions & ADU: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in San Jose built around KraftMaid cabinetry, plan on $53,100 – $153,400 for a full home addition, or $106,200 – $259,600 for a detached ADU with a full kitchen and bath. That range covers design, permits, rough-in, KraftMaid cabinet installation, countertops, fixtures, and finish work. We install KraftMaid cabinets in additions and ADUs across San Jose, and we’ll give you a written line-item price before a single tool comes out.
Most homeowners find us after they’ve gotten three bids that don’t explain what’s actually in the number. One quote says “cabinetry” without a brand. Another leaves out permit fees. When you’re spending six figures on an ADU in Willow Glen, Japantown, or Evergreen, you need to know exactly which KraftMaid cabinet line is in the price, what the substrate is under the countertop, and whether the rough-in for that second bath is covered. That’s what this page answers.
Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid builds cabinetry in three broad tiers, and your addition or ADU budget depends heavily on which one lands in the design: Vantage is the entry line, Venicia sits mid-range, and Vantage Pro is the full-custom build with plywood boxes and soft-close hardware throughout. Each line uses different box construction. Vantage models run furniture board sides with hardwood face frames. Vantage Pro runs maple plywood sides, which hold up better in a San Jose ADU that sees temperature swings from cold mornings off the foothills to 90-degree summer afternoons.
The compatibility gotcha: KraftMaid changes finish codes and door profile names between catalog years. A homeowner with a 2018 “Sable” finish who tries to match a 2024 “Sable” will get a shade that doesn’t read the same under the same light. If you’re extending an existing KraftMaid kitchen into a dining-room bump-out, we pull the original order number off the back of a drawer box and match against KraftMaid’s current production codes before pricing anything. Bradford Remodeling Co San Jose is an independent contractor, not affiliated with KraftMaid, but we’ve installed enough of their product across San Jose to know which finish codes are still current and which ones you’ll have to reconsider.

Signs Your KraftMaid Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Soft-close doors slam or bind. The damper clips on KraftMaid hinges wear out after a few thousand cycles, especially in ADUs that sit empty half the month and then get hammered by guests. A binding door usually means the hinge cup has drifted, not that the box is bad.
- Drawer fronts pull off the box. KraftMaid’s standard drawer connection is a screw through the face into the box side. If the drawer gets overloaded, that screw strips and the front works loose. We fix this with a through-bolt retrofit, not wood glue.
- Adjustable shelves sag in the middle. Melamine shelves span 30 – 36 inches in most KraftMaid uppers, and they bow under canned goods over time. Edge-banded plywood shelving solves it permanently.
- Water swell at sink bases. This is the most common failure in San Jose additions where a dishwasher or disposal line leaks behind the kick plate. KraftMaid’s standard box construction doesn’t come with a waterproof sink-base liner, so we add one on every kitchen install.
- Hinges click or snap open too fast. That’s a broken spring inside the hinge cup. It’s a $4 part, but the labor to swap all of them on a 20-door kitchen is the line item people forget to price.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full home addition or ADU in San Jose, the line items we quote most often are the ones people think are “included” until the invoice says otherwise. Here’s what the numbers look like in the San Jose market:
- Home addition (bedroom, bath, or extended living space): $53,100 – $153,400
- ADU construction (detached, full kitchen and bath): $106,200 – $259,600
- Garage conversion (finished studio, kitchenette or full bath): $35,400 – $94,400
- Kitchen remodel within the addition (KraftMaid cabinetry, counters, plumbing rough-in): $16,520 – $53,100
- KraftMaid cabinet installation only (labor, hardware, crown, trim): $4,720 – $15,340
- Countertop installation (Cambria or Silestone slab, fabricated and set): $2,360 – $7,670
Every one of those numbers comes with a written scope from us. That means the line items are spelled out before work starts: permit fees, demolition, rough-in, flooring, paint, KraftMaid cabinet line and finish code, countertop brand and edge profile, fixture allowances from Kohler or Moen. The price does not move at the door. That’s The Garrison Standard. Every project we complete carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if anything we installed fails inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can measure your existing cabinet boxes and check the KraftMaid label inside a drawer for the original finish code. That gives you a real starting point for a conversation. What you should not do is try to hang KraftMaid uppers on drywall anchors, shim a racked ADU floor with scrap lumber, or cut a sink opening in a stone slab with a circular saw. Curtis Lane has seen a homeowner drop a 200-pound Cambria countertop off a homemade dolly in a Rose Garden driveway. The stone cracked, the cabinet face split, and the “savings” turned into a $3,000 repair.

FAQs

KraftMaid cabinets hold up 20 – 25 years in a conditioned San Jose space. ADUs that aren’t climate-controlled can see hinge and drawer wear twice as fast because the temperature swings from the Santa Cruz mountain air to the Santa Clara Valley heat stress the wood and soften the plastic dampers. The boxes themselves rarely fail first; it’s the hardware.
In most cases, yes, and we’ll tell you when it’s not worth it. Stripped drawer fronts, worn hinges, sagging shelves, and water-swollen sink bases are all repairable. If the boxes are delaminated from years of leaks, replacement is cheaper than patching particleboard. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll give you the honest math on repair versus replace.
A full kitchen’s worth of KraftMaid cabinets goes in over two to three working days, assuming the walls are plumb and the rough-in is complete. Crown molding, light rail, and touch-up add another day. We schedule that time in the written scope so the number doesn’t float.
We carry KraftMaid-compatible hinge clips, drawer glides, shelf pins, and matching touch-up in the common finish colors. For full cabinet boxes or doors, we order from KraftMaid’s current production schedule, which usually takes two to three weeks in the San Jose market. We also install Cambria, Silestone, and Kohler products when the project calls for them.
