Dvele Driveway & Pavers: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
Dvele driveway and paver repair in San Jose typically runs $826 to $2,125 for section repairs, while full paver driveway installation lands between $8,260 and $21,240 depending on square footage and substrate condition. We stock Dvele-compatible pavers and driveway components on our trucks for same-day assessment in most San Jose neighborhoods, and a live person answers when you call (669) 272-2637. Most Dvele owners discover a driveway problem the hard way: a paver sinks after a winter rain, a joint cracks near the garage apron, or a section shifts because the base layer was never compacted right in the first place. You notice it underfoot before you notice it with your eyes.
Dvele homes are built tight and engineered clean, which means the driveway and paver work around them needs to meet a higher bar than a standard pour-over. The tolerances matter. We’ve worked on enough Dvele properties in Willow Glen, Cambrian, and Almaden Valley to know what the original installs look like, and what fails first when the base was rushed. This page covers what we see, what it costs, and what “fixed” actually means.
Which Dvele Models This Applies To

Dvele driveways and paver systems are not model-specific in the way a cabinet pull or a window sash might be, but the site conditions around Dvele builds are consistent. Dvele homes across San Jose, from the newer planned communities to the infill lots, typically run compacted aggregate base under concrete or paver hardscape, with drainage engineered into the grading. The compatibility issue isn’t a serial number. It’s the spec of the base layer, the paver thickness, and the edge restraint.
Here’s the gotcha we see most often: Dvele’s standard paver driveways use a 60mm or 80mm unit, not the 40mm pavers sold at most big-box stores for patios. A 40mm paver on a driveway carries vehicle weight it was never rated for, and it fails within two seasons. If you’re replacing a section, we match paver height exactly. If we can’t identify the original manufacturer by look, we take a sample and match by dimension and color blend. For OEM-vs-aftermarket: Dvele does not sell driveway pavers direct to consumers, so the aftermarket is really the whole market. Belgard and Unilock make direct dimensional equivalents for most Dvele-spec pavers, and those carry manufacturer warranties that back our own written guarantee.
Bradford Remodeling Co San Jose is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Dvele, but we’ve torn out, matched, and replaced enough of their driveway and hardscape work to know the standard.

Signs Your Dvele Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or “bird-bathed” pavers near the garage apron. This is almost always a base failure, not a paver failure. The aggregate underneath wasn’t compacted in lifts, or water washed fines out from under the edge. In San Jose’s clay-heavy soil, the freeze-thaw cycle is minimal, but the wet-dry swelling still shifts an under-compacted base.
- Joint sand washing out after every rain. Once the sand between pavers is gone, the pavers start working against each other under load. You’ll see hairline chips at the corners first. Polymeric sand that was mixed wrong or installed in damp conditions fails within a year. California winters aren’t hard, but they’re wet enough to expose a bad joint-fill.
- Edge pavers creeping outward. The edge restraint was either never installed or set too shallow. Without it, the outside row walks toward the lawn or garden bed by a quarter inch a year until the whole border line looks drunk.
- Standing water that wasn’t there before. Dvele grading is engineered for drainage. When water pools on the driveway after a light rain, a section has settled below the drainage plane. That means the base moved, not the surface.
- Cracks in the concrete sections of a Dvele driveway. Concrete driveways on Dvele properties are usually 4 inches thick with saw-cut control joints. Cracks that run straight and follow a saw cut are cosmetic. Cracks that wander diagonally and widen over several months are structural, usually a settling subgrade or a tree root 10 feet away doing the work.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Section paver repair in San Jose runs $826 to $2,125 for a typical 10-by-10 foot sunken area, including removing the failed pavers, re-compacting or re-grading the base, adding fresh washed aggregate, and resetting the pavers with new joint sand. Full paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240, and the spread comes down to access, base depth, paver unit price, and whether we need to remove and haul off an old concrete slab. Concrete driveway replacement runs $5,310 to $14,160, and asphalt paving runs $4,130 to $10,620.
Every quote is written before we start. It lists the parts, the labor hours, the haul-off, the base material spec, and the exact paver or concrete product by name and SKU where available. No numbers move at the door. The work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything we install fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s in writing, signed, in your hand before the first tool comes off the truck.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the obvious things: clean out your control joints, watch where water pools after rain, and mark any pavers that rock under your foot. That’s useful information when we show up. What we would not recommend is pulling pavers yourself on a sloped driveway. Once you break the edge restraint and remove a few units, the whole field loses lateral support and you can end up with a slide after the next rain. We’ve also seen homeowners buy the wrong paver depth online and create a trip edge in a driveway where cars and kids both travel. That’s a liability, not a repair.
Driveway and paver work involves base compaction, grade, and drainage you cannot fix with a rubber mallet and a bag of sand from the hardware store. We bring the plate compactor, the laser level, and the right base material for San Jose soil. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll give you a straight number and a written scope. Straight number, written scope, done when we said done.
FAQs

A properly installed concrete driveway in San Jose should last 25 to 30 years, and a paver driveway on a properly compacted base should last 20 to 25 years before the base itself needs major work. The pavers themselves typically outlast the base. The variable is the ground under it, and in San Jose that means clay, which shrinks and swells with the seasons. Call (669) 272-2637 if your driveway is under 10 years old and already failing. That’s a base problem, not a product problem, and it should be corrected before it spreads.
Yes, and that’s the most common job we do. If the surrounding pavers are sound and the base failure is localized, we dig out the section, recompact the aggregate in lifts, and reset the pavers to grade. You’ll see a slight color difference on older pavers until the sun evens them out, which usually takes one full season in San Jose. Call (669) 272-2637 for an on-site assessment and a written quote.
A section repair of 100 square feet or less is typically done in one day, including base recompaction and joint sand. A full paver driveway replacement on a standard San Jose two-car driveway takes 3 to 5 working days, depending on whether old concrete needs haul-off. We schedule the dumpster, the compactor, and the crew before we start, so the job runs as one continuous operation, not a stop-and-start week. Call (669) 272-2637 to schedule a free estimate.
We keep the most common 60mm and 80mm driveway pavers on hand in gray, charcoal, and tan blends, along with the edge restraints, geotextile, and joint sand that go with them. Belgard and Unilock equivalents are stocked daily through our suppliers in San Jose. If your paver is a discontinued color or a custom Dvele blend, we’ll take a sample, match it by eye and dimension, and show you the match before we write the quote. Call (669) 272-2637 and tell us the color you’re looking for. We’ll tell you honestly if it’s stock or a 10-day order.
