CWS Kitchen Remodeling: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

If you own a home in San Jose with CWS kitchen components and something has failed, here’s the straight answer: a full CWS-compatible kitchen remodel in this market runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, and we handle the whole job from tear-out to final walkthrough. We are not affiliated with CWS, but we work with CWS systems and cabinetry regularly across San Jose, and we know exactly which parts fail and what it takes to replace them properly. Most homeowners call us after a cabinet face delaminates, a drawer slide binds, or a countertop substrate swells from years of water exposure near the sink. You notice it when a door won’t close square, a drawer grinds instead of glides, or you see peeling laminate at the dishwasher opening.

That failure usually isn’t cosmetic. It’s the first sign the kitchen’s structural pieces have reached the end of their useful life. And in San Jose’s dry summer heat plus kitchen humidity swings, wood and composite materials move more than people expect. Curtis Lane has seen this pattern enough times that we keep a documented list of CWS-compatible replacement parts and materials on hand, and we price the fix by the job, not by the hour.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

CWS kitchen components span several cabinet lines and countertop systems, and not all CWS parts interchange. The line matters. Older CWS cabinets built with 1/2-inch particleboard boxes take different hinge and slide hardware than the newer 3/4-inch plywood-box lines. The drawer slide length is the compatibility gotcha most people miss: CWS drawers commonly run 12-inch, 15-inch, 18-inch, or 21-inch slides, and a drawer that worked with an 18-inch slide won’t accept a 21-inch replacement without a new drawer box. Measure the slide length while it’s extended, front-to-back, before you buy anything.

For hinge replacement, pull one hinge off and check the cup diameter. CWS uses 35mm cup hinges on most cabinet doors, but some of the older slab-door lines run 26mm cups. The overlay spec matters too: half-overlay, full-overlay, or inset doors need different hinge geometry. On the countertop side, CWS laminate and solid-surface tops have different substrate requirements. A laminate top over particleboard that’s been wet more than once is not worth re-laminating; the substrate swells and the new laminate won’t bond flat. For CWS-specific replacements, OEM parts preserve the original fit, but quality aftermarket equivalents from Blum, Salice, or Grass often meet or exceed the OEM spec for less money. We stock common CWS slide lengths, hinge overlays, and catch styles on our trucks so a San Jose service call doesn’t turn into three.

Signs Your CWS Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer opens rough or drops on one side – the slide’s ball bearings have worn flat or the slide bracket has pulled loose from a particleboard drawer box. Once the bracket screws strip out, the fix is a new drawer box, not a new slide.
  • Cabinet door won’t stay closed or hangs crooked – the hinge spring has failed or the hinge plate has shifted. If the door sags more than 1/8 inch at the corner, the hinge cup is usually wallowed out and the door needs a cup fill or replacement.
  • Laminate peeling or bubbling at the countertop edge – water got under the top laminate and into the substrate. In San Jose, this shows up first at the dishwasher seam and around the sink cutout. Once the substrate swells, the countertop is done.
  • Soft-close mechanisms stop working – the small damper inside the hinge or slide has leaked its fluid or the plastic catch has cracked. Individual dampers are replaceable, but if they’ve failed across multiple doors, the whole hardware set is past its service life.
  • Cabinet box pulling away from the wall or settling at the corner – the wall anchors or toe-kick supports are failing. This is a structural sign, not a hardware one, and it means the kitchen was under-supported from the start or the floor has moved.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A stone counter, tile backsplash and open shelf after a kitchen remodel

In San Jose, a full kitchen remodel with CWS-compatible materials runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on kitchen size, cabinet line, countertop material, and how much structural correction the existing walls and floor need. A small kitchen remodel falls in the $10,620 to $23,600 range. Countertop installation alone runs $2,360 to $7,670. Backsplash work adds $945 to $2,950. A kitchen island install runs $3,540 to $11,800. Those are installed prices, not parts-only numbers.

What moves the price? The cabinet construction grade, the countertop material (laminate is the low end, Cambria or Silestone quartz sits at the top), whether we’re correcting out-of-level floors or damaged subfloor before cabinets go in, and the linear footage of countertop and backsplash. Every Bradford Remodeling quote includes a written scope with the exact materials, part numbers where they apply, and a fixed price. No numbers move at the door. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair or remodel fails inside a year, we return and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely diagnose most CWS problems yourself: pull a drawer and read the slide length stamp, check hinge cup diameter with a cheap caliper, and look for water staining under the sink cabinet. That information helps us price the job accurately before we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is attempt structural repairs to cabinet boxes, countertop substrate, or any gas or electrical rough-in behind the cabinets. Countertop removal near a sink means plumbing disconnects and reconnections. A bad cabinet pull can take drywall with it. If you’re not sure, call (669) 272-2637 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you straight if it’s a parts call or a remodel call, and we won’t upsell you into work you don’t need.
