CWS Driveway & Pavers: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
If you have a CWS driveway or paver installation and a section has failed, we stock CWS-compatible pavers and base materials, and we install them throughout San Jose. A paver driveway repair or partial replacement in San Jose typically runs $826 to $2,650 depending on how many square feet failed and whether the substrate underneath needs rebuilding. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: a paver sinks after a rain, a row shifts out of alignment, or a section of driveway starts pooling water where it never did before.
We’re an independent contractor in San Jose, not affiliated with CWS. What we do is match the existing paver profile and color as closely as the product line allows, then rebuild the failed section so it drains and holds like the day it was laid.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS driveway and paver systems in San Jose are typically installed as interlocking concrete pavers, most commonly in a 60mm or 80mm thickness. The 60mm units are rated for pedestrian and light vehicle use; the 80mm units are what you want under a driveway that carries full-size trucks or SUVs. If your original install used 60mm pavers on a driveway, that’s a compatibility gotcha we see regularly: the pavers crack under vehicle weight, not because the paver is defective but because the spec was wrong for the load.
To identify what you have, look at the paver edge. A 60mm paver is about 2 and 3/8 inches thick; an 80mm runs just over 3 and 1/8 inches. You’ll also find the series name stamped on the underside of most CWS pavers, something like a three-letter code followed by a number. That code tells us the mold profile, which matters more than the color name if we’re matching a partial section. For CWS specifically, we recommend OEM or same-mold-profile pavers over generic aftermarket units when you’re patching a visible section. Color variation between manufacturers is real, and a mismatched patch job on a San Jose driveway will bother you every time you pull in.

Signs Your CWS Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sinking or low spots that hold water. This usually means the base layer under the pavers has compacted unevenly or washed out. In San Jose’s clay-heavy soil, poor drainage under a paver bed will move things over one or two rainy seasons.
- Pavers shifting out of alignment or separating at the joints. Edge restraint has failed or was never installed properly. Once the outer row lets go, the whole field starts creeping.
- Weeds pushing up between joints. This is a drainage and joint-sand failure. Water is sitting in the joints, and the sand has washed out, giving weeds exactly the foothold they want.
- Cracked or chipped pavers in the wheel path. If the crack runs across multiple pavers in a line, the base is flexing under load. The pavers are not the problem; the substrate underneath is.
- White chalky residue blooming on the surface. Efflorescence. It’s cosmetic and common on concrete pavers in the first year, but persistent recurrence in San Jose usually points to trapped moisture below the pavers, which means drainage is not doing its job.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For CWS paver driveway work in San Jose, here’s the straight pricing structure:
- Small spot repair (one sunken or cracked section, under 40 sq ft): $826 to $1,650
- Partial driveway re-lay (40 to 200 sq ft, including base rebuild): $1,650 to $3,540
- Full paver driveway installation (new build, including excavation, base, sand, pavers): $8,260 to $21,240
- Paver patio installation (new build): $4,130 to $12,980
What drives the number is the substrate. If the pavers failed because the base was underbuilt, slapping new pavers on top of the old base means you’ll be back here in two years. We rebuild the base: excavate, compact, add the right depth of Class II road base, level, and re-lay. The written quote we give you includes every part of that, down to the haul-away. You’ll know the number before we start, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year after we finish. If the repair fails inside that window, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s the Garrison Standard, in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely pull a pavers out and inspect the base underneath. That’s worth doing: if you see wet muck or standing water below the pavers, you’ve found the failure point. What you shouldn’t do is re-compact a vehicle-load base with a hand tamper and expect it to hold. Hand tamping gets you maybe 80% of the compaction a plate compactor delivers, and on San Jose clay, that missing 20% shows up as sinkage within the first year. If you’re pulling more than a handful of pavers or the failed area is in a driveway wheel path, call us at (669) 272-2637 and we’ll assess it free. Patching a driveway twice costs more than doing it once, done right.
FAQs

A properly installed CWS paver driveway on a compacted base will last 25 to 35 years in San Jose’s climate. The pavers themselves don’t wear out; what fails is the base and edge restraint, and those are correctable without replacing the whole field. If your driveway is failing at year five, the install was wrong, not the product.

Yes, in most cases a localized repair is all that’s needed. We pull the affected pavers, rebuild the base in that section, re-lay the pavers, and re-sand the joints. The repair only works if the base underneath is rebuilt to spec, so don’t accept a quote that just re-sets pavers on the same failed substrate.

A small spot repair runs half a day to one full day on site. A partial driveway re-lay with base rebuild takes one to two days, depending on how much excavation the base needs. We’ll give you the day count in the written scope before we start, and the cleanup is part of the deal: no debris pile left in your driveway, no mud trail in the street. Curtis Lane has a rule that the site gets squared away before the crew leaves, and the written guarantee is in your hand at close-out.
We stock common CWS-compatible paver profiles and colors on the truck in San Jose, and we can source the full CWS line through our supplier network. If we don’t have your exact color profile on hand, we’ll tell you the lead time up front and give you a straight number on the total before you commit. We also carry parts and materials for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone jobs, but for this repair, the pavers are what matter. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll check stock on your specific profile.
