Plant Prefab Driveway & Pavers: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

If you own a Plant Prefab home in San Jose and your driveway or paver system is shifting, cracking, or draining poorly, we stock and install compatible replacement pavers, base materials, and edge restraints matched to your model’s original specs. Installed paver driveway work in San Jose runs $8,260 to $21,240, with most partial repairs and spot replacements landing well under that. The usual discovery path: a paver sinks after a winter rain, a corner paver loosens where the driveway meets the street, or you notice standing water pooling in spots that used to drain clean.

We’re Bradford Remodeling Co San Jose, an independent contractor. We are not affiliated with Plant Prefab, but we work on their driveway and paver systems regularly, and we keep the common replacement components in stock or two days out.

Which Plant Prefab Models This Applies To

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

Plant Prefab homes in San Jose typically ship with one of two hardscape packages: a poured concrete transition slab with paver accents, or a full modular paver driveway in a 60mm or 80mm unit paver. The 60mm pavers are pedestrian-rated and show up on walkways and patio borders; the 80mm pavers are the driveway-rated units. Mixing the two is the most common compatibility gotcha we see: a homeowner patches a driveway section with 60mm pavers from a big-box store and they crack within a season under vehicle weight.

To identify your exact paver, look for a manufacturer stamp on the underside or a lot code printed on the original delivery packing slip. Belgard and Unilock are the two brands we most often match on Plant Prefab sites in San Jose, both of which we install as documented, traceable materials. If the original paver line is discontinued, we’ll source a dimensional match and run a color-blend test before quoting the job, since a near-match that’s off by one shade looks worse than a deliberate contrast.

Signs Your Plant Prefab Driveway & Pavers Are Failing

  • Sunken or “birdbath” pavers. This almost always means the base layer under the pavers has washed out or settled. In San Jose’s clay-heavy soils, winter saturation followed by summer drying causes the subgrade to heave, then drop. The paver itself isn’t the problem; the base under it is.
  • Loose or rocking pavers near the edges. Edge restraints fail first. Without a solid restraint holding the perimeter, pavers drift outward, and the ones at the driveway edge start moving under tire pressure.
  • Sand washing out between joints. If you see little piles of sand on the driveway surface after rain, the joint sand is eroding. Once joints go empty, pavers start shifting and the whole surface loses its interlock.
  • Standing water that used to drain. Paver driveways are pitched to move water. If pooling starts, the pitch has changed, usually from base settlement. This is a drainage failure disguised as a paver problem.
  • Cracked or chipped pavers in the wheel path. This is the clearest sign of an underweight paver doing driveway duty. Vehicle loads are concentrating on units that weren’t rated for them, and they fail from the top down.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

Full paver driveway installation in San Jose runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, paver grade, and how much base reconstruction the existing site needs. Spot repairs, like replacing a 10-by-10-foot section of failed base and resetting pavers, typically fall in the $1,200 to $3,500 range. Smaller jobs, like resetting a few loose pavers and re-sanding joints, run a few hundred dollars.

Every quote we give is a written fixed price before work starts. That number includes materials, labor, base prep, haul-off of the old material, and the final sanding and compaction pass. No change orders unless you add scope. And the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That promise is in writing, signed, and in your hand when the crew walks off the job.

DIY or Call Us?

Resetting a single paver that’s come loose is a homeowner-level task, provided the base underneath is still solid. Pull the paver, check that the sand bed is level, reset it, and sweep joint sand around it. What you shouldn’t do is attempt a base repair yourself. Digging out a failed base, recompacting it properly, and re-establishing drainage pitch takes a plate compactor, the right aggregate, and a trained eye for grade. Get the base wrong and you’ll be looking at the same sunken paver next winter.

If the pavers are cracking in the wheel path, sinking more than half an inch, or the water isn’t draining, call us at (669) 272-2637. We’ll inspect it, give you a written number, and tell you honestly whether it’s a reset or a redo.

How Much Does Paver Driveway Replacement Cost in San Jose?

Paver driveway replacement in San Jose runs $8,260 to $21,240 for a full tear-out and reinstall, with the range driven by driveway size, paver thickness, and whether the existing base can be salvaged. Call (669) 272-2637 for a written quote on your exact driveway. Estimates are free.

Will the Price Change Once Work Starts?

No. The price we put in writing before the job starts is the price you pay, unless you add scope or we uncover a condition that was buried and unknowable at the time of the quote, like an abandoned septic line or a buried stump. In that case, you get a separate written change order to approve before we touch the extra work. We don’t reprice at the door.

How Long Does a Paver Driveway Repair or Replacement Take?

A targeted paver repair typically takes one day: pull the affected area, recompact the subbase, reset the pavers, and re-sand the joints. A full driveway replacement in San Jose runs two to four days depending on size, with an extra day if we’re widening or re-grading the base. We give you a start date and a finish date in writing before we show up.

Does Bradford Remodeling Stock Plant Prefab-Compatible Pavers?

We stock the common 60mm and 80mm paver units, joint sand, and edge restraints for Plant Prefab driveways in San Jose, and we can pull most dimensional or color matches within two days through our Belgard and Unilock supply lines. If you send us a photo of the paver and its underside stamp, we’ll confirm the match before we schedule the truck. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll walk you through it.
