Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The San Jose Owner’s Guide
We install and repair Quikrete-compatible driveway and paver systems across San Jose, with paver driveway installation typically running $8,260 – $21,240 and concrete driveway work at $5,310 – $14,160 depending on square footage, substrate condition, and access. Most owners find us after a section of their driveway has cracked, sunk, or separated at the control joints, or after pavers have shifted out of plane and turned a straight walk into a trip hazard. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll get you a written price before any work starts, no exceptions.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete’s driveway and paver line covers a few distinct products, and the failure mode tells you which one you’re dealing with. The most common in San Jose: Quikrete Concrete Mix (the 80-lb bags) used for poured slabs and driveway patches, Quikrete Crack-Resistant Concrete Mix for slabs that see thermal movement, and Quikrete Paver Base or All-Purpose Sand set under interlocking concrete pavers. The compatibility gotcha most owners miss: paver base and sand are not interchangeable. Paver base is a graded aggregate that compacts into a load-bearing layer. Sand is a bedding layer. If sand gets substituted for base, you’ll see pavers sink within two seasons, especially in San Jose’s clay-heavy soils that swell with winter rain and shrink through our dry summers.
Bradford Remodeling Co San Jose is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Quikrete. We work with Quikrete products and equivalent materials from documented manufacturers, and we’ll tell you which one the job actually needs.

Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Hairline cracks spreading from a single point. Usually a sub-base issue. Water got under the slab, softened the soil, and the concrete lost support. Patching the crack alone doesn’t fix what’s underneath.
- Paver edges lifting or rocking underfoot. The bedding sand has migrated out through the joints, or the edge restraint never got installed. You’ll see sand washing onto the sidewalk after rain.
- Control joints separating more than a quarter inch. Normal slabs move, but wide separation means the subgrade wasn’t compacted evenly. The slab is flexing, and flexing concrete cracks more.
- Efflorescence, that white chalky film, keeps coming back. Water is moving through the concrete and carrying minerals to the surface. Sealing over it without fixing drainage just traps the moisture inside.
- A dip or low spot that holds water for more than a day after rain. The base settled under the slab or pavers. In San Jose, standing water on a driveway also means algae growth and a slick surface come winter.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a paver driveway in San Jose, expect $8,260 – $21,240 depending on size, paver style, base depth, and whether we’re pulling out an old concrete slab first. Concrete driveway installation runs $5,310 – $14,160. Driveway replacement, where we remove the old surface and rebuild the base, lands at $5,900 – $16,520. The line items stay separate: demolition and haul-off, base material and compaction, paver or concrete material, edge restraint, and labor. You’ll see every number in writing before we touch the job, and that number doesn’t move at the door. Every completed job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things yourself: read the bag or paver stamp to identify the product, measure the affected area, and look at where water pools after a storm. What you shouldn’t do is start tearing out sections of a poured slab or resetting pavers without compacting the base properly. Improper compaction is the number one reason DIY driveway work fails in San Jose within two years. If the job is bigger than a single paver reset, call (669) 272-2637. We’ll give you a straight written scope, and if it’s not a Bradford job, we’ll tell you that too.
FAQs

A properly installed Quikrete concrete driveway should last 25 – 30 years in San Jose if the base was compacted and the slab has working control joints. Pavers, with the right base and edge restraint, can go 30+ years because individual units flex instead of cracking, but the bedding sand will need periodic top-dressing. Call (669) 272-2637 for an exact assessment of your site.
Cracks under a quarter inch with no vertical displacement can usually be filled and sealed, but if the soil underneath has settled, any surface repair is temporary. We’ll tell you which situation you have before quoting anything.
Most paver driveway installations take five to eight working days from demolition through final compaction and joint sand. Factors like access, old slab removal, and weather can shift that window, and we’ll put the schedule in writing before we start.
We stock standard Quikrete concrete mixes, paver base, and bedding sand, and we can source specialty Quikrete products within a day or two. We also work with documented brands like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for related interior work, so specs stay traceable across a project. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll confirm what we have before you even schedule a walkthrough.
