Cambridge Pavers Fence Installation: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

Cambridge Pavers fence installation in San Jose typically runs $4,130 to $10,620, depending on the linear footage, the paver style you’re matching, and whether we’re pulling an old fence line or setting fresh posts. Most owners call us after a fence section has leaned, a gate has started dragging, or a row of pavers has shifted out of plane after a wet winter. We stock Cambridge-compatible fence materials and install them with a written price before the first post hole gets dug.

You usually find out the fence is failing the same way every San Jose homeowner does: one morning the gate won’t latch, and by the time you look close, the post line has drifted half an inch out of square. Pavers settle, soil moves, and hardware that was never rated for our clay-heavy ground gives up. We see it in Willow Glen, Cambrian, and Almaden Valley constantly. The good news is the fix is straightforward when the right materials go in the first time.

Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To

Cambridge Pavers makes a range of wall and fence systems, and the compatibility question isn’t academic. The most common lines we work with in San Jose are the RoundTable wall system, the Ledgestone series, and the Maytrx segmental retaining wall units. Each uses a different pin-and-groove or lip-and-channel connection, and a part from one line will not seat correctly in another. If you’re not sure which line you have, check the underside of a cap unit: Cambridge stamps the series name and a mold number there in most cases.

One gotcha worth knowing: Cambridge switched its pin diameter on some wall systems over the years. A fence installed in 2015 may use a 3/4-inch pin while newer units take a 5/8-inch pin. If you buy replacement pins online without checking, you’ll spend an afternoon drilling out pilot holes that don’t match. That’s exactly the kind of thing we verify with a caliper on-site before ordering anything.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Cambridge makes the caps, pins, and face units in specific color blends, and a mismatched cap from a generic supplier will show within a year as the color fades differently under San Jose sun. We use Cambridge-origin units whenever the line is active, and a documented aftermarket equivalent only when a color or style has been discontinued. The decision gets written into your quote so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Leaning post line. This usually means the footing is undersized for San Jose’s expansive clay soil. As the ground swells and dries through the season, the post moves with it, and the fence follows. A post that’s out of plumb by more than an inch needs looking at before the paver joints start spalling.
  • Gate dragging or failing to latch. The gate post has settled, or the hinge hardware is binding against a shifted paver column. It’s rarely the gate itself. We level the post and re-set the hinges, and the gate usually swings clean again.
  • Cracks running through face units. Hairline cracks often mean water got behind the fence and froze, or the wall was backfilled with dirt instead of drainage gravel. Once a face unit cracks, water keeps getting in and the crack grows. In San Jose’s wet winters, this accelerates quickly.
  • Cap units sliding or loose. Caps are glued or pinned, and the adhesive gives out before the paver does. A loose cap is the easiest repair we do, but it signals that the thermal expansion cycles are working on the bond, and the rest of the line should be checked for other loose units.
  • Gaps opening at the base course. This is a drainage problem. If the base material is washing out, the lowest course of pavers loses support and shifts outward. You’ll see a gap at ground level, then the next row starts to tip. Left too long, the bottom two or three courses need a rebuild instead of a spot fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

A full Cambridge Pavers fence replacement in San Jose runs $4,130 to $10,620 installed. At the low end, that’s a short run, maybe 25 to 35 linear feet, with good access and existing footings we can reuse. At the high end, it’s a longer property line, a full teardown of the old fence, new footing excavation, drainage correction, and new caps and pins throughout.

The spread comes down to three things: how much fence we’re building, whether the base and drainage need to be redone, and which Cambridge line we’re matching. Parts and labor are separated on your written quote. We don’t bury the paver cost in a lump sum and we don’t change the number at the door. If the price moves, it’s because the scope moved in writing and you approved it first.

Every installation is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the fence fails inside that year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s in writing on the quote and on the guarantee you get at close.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for gaps at the base course, run a level on the post line, and check whether any cap units move when you press on them. That tells you whether you’re looking at a minor issue or a structural one. What you should not do is start pulling face units off a failing wall. The units above the one you remove are bearing on it, and taking the wrong course out first can drop a few hundred pounds of paver onto your hands or feet.

Where DIY usually goes wrong is underneath. Most San Jose fence failures aren’t the pavers, they’re the footing and drainage below them. If you reset the post but don’t fix the drainage, you’ll be back out there in two years doing the same job. That’s the part we handle start to finish, with the right gravel, the right depth, and a written guarantee. Call (669) 272-2637 and we’ll come look at it for free.
