Schluter Fence Installation: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

Schluter fence installation in San Jose typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 installed, depending on the profile system, linear footage, and substrate condition. We stock the common Schluter fence profiles and trim pieces on the truck, so most jobs are a single visit. Homeowners usually find us after the fence has pulled away from the wall at the corner, or after water has crept behind a failing edge and left a stain running down the tile.

You’re here because a piece failed. Maybe it’s the profile itself, maybe it’s the substrate behind it, maybe it’s the silicone joint that finally let go. Either way, the fix starts with matching the right part to the exact Schluter system you already have. That’s not always as simple as it sounds, and we’ll get into why below.

Which Schluter Models This Applies To

A walk-in shower with large-format tile and a built-in niche

Schluter makes a range of edge-protection and transition profiles that get used as fencing in showers, tub surrounds, and countertop edges. The ones we match most often in San Jose are the Quadec, Rondec, Jolly, and Dilex lines, plus the DILEX-EKE and DILEX-BWA movement joints that show up in tiled fence assemblies around pool decks and exterior stair walls. Quadec and Rondec are square profiles; Jolly has that rounded finished edge. If you can read the profile code printed on the back of a removed section, that tells us the series and the height in millimeters.

The gotcha most owners hit: Schluter profiles are sized to the tile thickness, not the fence height. A Rondec that looked fine with 8mm tile will look wrong against 10mm, and the set-back leg won’t sit flush. Aftermarket profiles exist and cost less, but they don’t match Schluter’s aluminum finish or the anodized color range. For visible fence lines, we install OEM Schluter. For hidden joints inside a shower niche, a quality aftermarket equivalent does the job at a lower material cost. Bradford Remodeling Co San Jose is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Schluter Systems.

Signs Your Schluter Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Corner joint pulling away from the wall. This is usually thermal movement or a thin-set bed that never cured fully behind the profile leg. The fence looks bowed, and the joint opens up over a few seasons.
  • Staining running down from the top edge. Water is getting behind the profile and traveling down the substrate. In San Jose’s wet winters, this shows up fast because the tile doesn’t dry out quickly.
  • Loose or rattling fence section. The mechanical bond has failed. Schluter profiles have a perforated anchoring leg, but if the thin-set coverage was spotty, the whole run loosens.
  • Discolored or chalky finish. That’s oxidation on the anodized layer. It happens faster on pool-facing fence lines in San Jose because of chlorinated splash and full sun exposure.
  • Cracked grout or silicone where the fence meets the tile. The profile is doing its job flexing, but the adjacent material isn’t. If the silicone joint has hardened, that’s the first warning.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled hall bathroom with subway tile and a floating vanity

For a standard San Jose fence run, installed pricing lands between $4,130 and $10,620. The spread comes down to linear footage, profile series, how much demo is involved, and whether the substrate behind the old profile needs repair before the new one goes in. A short shower niche edge might sit near the bottom of that range. A long pool fence or an exterior stair wall with movement joints will push higher.

Every quote includes the Schluter profile material, demolition of the failed section, substrate prep, installation, and the finish joint work. We write the price in the scope before any work starts, which is how Curtis Lane has always run the company on flat-rate pricing. You get a line item for the part, a line item for labor, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the installation fails within a year, Bradford comes back and corrects it at no charge.

Other brands we also stock parts for: KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely remove a face-mounted profile with a pry bar and check what’s behind it. You can measure the exposed leg height, note the series code, and wipe the area down. That tells us a lot before we arrive.

What goes wrong in DIY starts at the thin-set stage. Schluter profiles need full contact behind the anchoring leg, and if that bed is uneven, the fence pulls away within a year. Cutting aluminum profile to length also requires a carbide blade and a deburring pass, or the cut end gouges the adjacent tile. This is not a high-tension or electrical hazard, but the failure mode is water damage. If the substrate behind the profile is soft or darkened, that’s rot or mold, and you don’t want to trap moisture in there by caulking over it.
